ABSTRACT
Facilitated diffusion is similar to diffusion in that a substance (such as a solute in a solution) moves from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. However, with facilitated diffusion, the movement occurs across a membrane by the assistance of a carrier molecule. Without the carrier, diffusion of that substance would not occur.
