ABSTRACT
NASA’s Project Prometheus was established in 2003 to develop and advance key technologies of Space
Nuclear Power Systems (SNPSs) and high power electric propulsion (.25 kW
) for missions planned late
this decade and early next decade to planet Mars, Jupiter, and beyond. The two categories of SNPSs being
considered are Advanced Radioisotope Power Systems (ARPSs) and Space Nuclear Reactor Power
Systems.
