ABSTRACT

Interventions in early childhood may have a substantial effect on the lifestyle behaviors of an individual, particularly with respect to dietary intake and physical activity or exercise (Dietz, 2004). There are numerous opportunities for young people to learn good eating habits — for example, using the medium of computer games at school and profiting from the topical nature of this technology. The effect of such proactive approaches can be substantial and capitalize on a high-interest factor for most children. The introduction of healthy food habits from a young age is particularly important for children who have had an impaired food intake (Turnin et al., 1998). The importance of the childhood diet in the prevention of adult obesity is essential and must start early (Scaglioni et al., 1999), as is the case for a proper involvement in physical activity (Molnar, 1999; Parˇízková, Maffeis, and Poskitt, 2002; Suskind et al., 2000).
