ABSTRACT

Forensic science has been called the art of observation governed by the rules of science. Nowhere is this more true than during the processing of crime scenes. The ultimate goal of any criminal investigation is to create links between the perpetrator, the victim, and the crime scene. In most cases, the crime scene is the first known common denominator — the crime scene is undeniably linked to the victim, to the perpetrator, and to the events that took place. Although no one can deny such a relationship, physical evidence is required to lock these elements together. Occasionally, the clues are readily visible and obvious. More often, however, the desired information will only be found by keen observations confirmed through the results of methodical processing.
