ABSTRACT
The definition of a segmental pavement used in this chapter is that of a preformed unit of material with
a plan area ranging from 100 by 200 mm to 5000 by 10,000 mm and having a thickness between 50 and
600 mm. The segmental pavement is laid as individual units which may or may not be joined together
to form a linked flexible or rigid pavement. The material may be natural stone, timber, precast concrete
or baked clay.
