      ABSTRACT

When a rigid pavement reaches the end of its service life, the pavement engineer has two choices if it is

required to provide the pavement with another service life span. The engineer could go for a

reconstruction by removing or crushing the damaged pavement structure and designing an all-new

pavement structure on the same location. Alternatively, if the pavement is still sound (fully or partially)

from a structural point of view, an overlay could be constructed on top of the existing pavement slab. This

latter option of pavement rehabilitation is usually more desirable in terms of cost and construction time.
