ABSTRACT
Of all the man-made systems created to enrich our daily lives, the road transport system exacts, by
far, the highest price in human injury and death. Globally, as many as 50 million persons are injured
in road traffic crashes each year and about 1.2 million of them die (World Health Organization,
2004). Road traffic injury is the single largest cause of (unintentional) death in the first five decades
of human life.
