ABSTRACT

A substrate is a platform on which electronic components are mounted. Also known as a printed wiring board (PWB) or a printed circuit board (PCB), a substrate provides mechanical support for components and conductors, insulates the routing signals, and provides a conduction path for heat dissipated by components. The base material of the substrate is the laminate. Four common categories of organic laminates rigid, flex, rigid-flex, and molded can be constructed into either a single-sided, double-sided, or a multi-layered substrate.
