ABSTRACT

Images 14-4 through 14-6 Intraventricular hemorrhage Premature infants, particularly those under 32 weeks gestational age, have an increased risk of IVH. In this population, an IVH typically arises from the subependymal germinal matrix located near the walls of the lateral ventricles (Marín-Padilla, 1996a). The germinal matrix hemorrhage may be small and localized, in which case it may be eventually resorbed, leaving only a subependymal cavity with little or no residual blood or hemosiderin (Image 14-4).
