Images 2-4 and 2-5 If a small/compact object is used to apply a large force to the head, tremendous injury can result. This occurs because the application of a large force over a small surface area creates well-demarcated, depressed fractures, with resulting bone fragments being driven into the brain tissue. These types of injuries are commonly seen as a result of attacks with hammers, wrenches, or other similar implements.
