ABSTRACT

The specific emphasis of high temperature air combustion so far has been on different kinds of furnaces and boilers for industrial applications. In all cases significant impact was achieved from the point of view of significant energy savings (up to about 60%), reduced pollutants to the environment including CO

, and smaller (compact size) of the equipment. It is also clear that we have begun to think about the traditional definition of flame as one that gives heat and light. Indeed, for the high temperature air combustion case one can have a flame without visually observing it since the flame can be colorless. For much of the 20th century the technological advances on the combustion of fuels have not been at the level of those in the electronics industry; see Table 6.1.
