ABSTRACT

Thermofluid systems involving liquid/solid flows and phase change arise in many engineering applications, such as materials processing (i.e., casting, injection molding, extrusion), aircraft de-icing, and phase change materials (PCMs) in thermal energy storage systems. In addition to technologies involving solidification and melting, solid/liquid flows arise in applications dealing with the transport of solid particles by a liquid phase. These applications require an understanding of both the mixture flow and relative flow between the liquid and the solid phases.
