ABSTRACT

Knowledge discovery, a subfield of artificial intelligence, can be used in the knowledge creation function in knowledge management. Knowledge discovery applies AI techniques to inductively determine new relationships, trends, and knowledge for a given application. Case-based reasoning, data/text mining, and intelligent/autonomous agents are typical techniques in knowledge discovery. This chapter discusses some projects and usage of these techniques to assist in the knowledge management function (Liebowitz, 2000, 1999; Liebowitz and Beckman, 1998).
