ABSTRACT

Habits and habitats. Adults and larvae are phytophagous. Larvae develop in seed capsules of  various plants. Adults feed on pollen and flower petals of the same plants or some others.

Status of the classification. Parsons (1943) last treated this group as Cateretinae: Nitidulidae. Since then, various authors have reviewed this family as Kateretidae, especially in Europe. Audisio (1979) provided characters to distinguish Heterhelus from Kateretes.
