ABSTRACT

We live in a digital age and computers abound throughout our society. As we become cognizant of computer capabilities we tend to automate more and more processes. This is certainly true in forensics. In Chapter 6 we discussed programs that allow us to define the point of origin for a given set of bloodstains. This type of software is just one example of how automation resources are enabling the analyst to better conduct analysis. In this chapter we will consider some of the ways in which automation supports crime scene analysis, bloodstain pattern analysis, and overall crime scene reconstruction.

Although some may see the application of computer resources in analysis as inappropriate or unnecessary, that is far too limited a viewpoint.
