ABSTRACT
For various reasons, vehicles will sometimes leave the roadway and go over a cliff, drop into a ditch, or otherwise free fall from a precipice. In the reconstruction of such an accident, it is often important to determine the velocity of the vehicle just prior to the fall. In general, if the height of the fall is known and the horizontal travel is known, the velocity just prior to fall can be calculated directly from that information.
