ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes this book on IOM which was based on our experience with the IOM service at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas, U.S.A., and on the collective experience of other centers. From the very beginning, rather than being exhaustive, we decided to present a general overview of the most typical and effective neurophysiological tests currently in use, the principles on which they are based, the specific surgical procedures that can be applied to, along with some recommendations regarding proper implementation and interpretation of the recordings. Inevitably, however, in doing so we have left out some less frequently used procedures, such as, for instance, monitoring of the pudendal nerve during a prostatectomy. However, this book has provided enough material so that interested readers could easily adapt the techniques presented here to other, more specific cases.
