ABSTRACT

Metallurgical thermodynamics belongs to the field of chemical thermodynamics, which is employed to predict whether a chemical reaction is feasible. It also allows quantitative calculation of the state of equilibrium of a system in terms of composition, pressure, and temperature, as well as determination of heat effects of reactions and processes. Laws of thermodynamics are exact. Therefore, calculations based on them are, in principle, sound and reliable. There are standard books dealing with the basics of chemical-cum-metallurgical thermodynamics.
