ABSTRACT
This genus contains several closely related species in North America, many of which were confused taxonomically until the revisionary studies of Thomas (1983) and Buxton et al. (1983). Thomas (1983) divided the genus into two subgenera,
Chlorochroa
Stål and
Rhytidolomia
Stål. Within the subgenus
Chlorochroa
, he artificially divided the species into two groups, the commonly encountered Sayi group and the rare Opuntiae group. Those species of economic importance are within the Sayi group, namely,
