ABSTRACT

The regulation of health claims in the U.S. for vegetables, fruits and herbs,* as with virtually all foods, is primarily the responsibility of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), pursuant to the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FDC Act),

as

amended by Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1990 (NLEA),

the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA),

and, to some extent, the Food and Drug Administration Modernization Act of 1997 (FDAMA).
