ABSTRACT
This chapter covers atomic model, electron configuration, principles, instrumentation, routine limits, and case studies in the application of x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). Since XPS and AES have many things in common both in theory and instrumentation-in fact, they are usually in the same laboratory system-these two techniques are discussed in one chapter.
