ABSTRACT
After introducing the concept of a mathematical model in simple terms in Chapter 3, we would like to discuss some basic modelling techniques frequently used in practice. In this chapter, we also introduce how to use subscripts in variables to make the mathematical model formulation compact. A number of examples are provided to demonstrate the simple modelling techniques as well as the use of subscripts.
