ABSTRACT

With its initial design completed, the team proceeded to the next phase: the development of the concept. The objective of this phase is simple: to determine whether the proposed design is capable of satisfying the customers’ CTQs. To meet that objective, the team needed to formalize its concept, and then apply modeling techniques to quantify the capabilities of the proposed design. The process that the team followed included five steps:

1. Define the proposed product and process. 2. Identify possible causes of variation in the process. 3. Model the design. 4. Identify potential risks and mitigation plans. 5. Develop quality measures for the process.
