ABSTRACT
Native American (Indian) reservations operate under their own laws, and in general do not fall under the jurisdiction of the medical examiner or coroner who serves the adjacent lands. The federal government has a Bureau of Indian Affairs and an Indian Health Service through which some death investigation activities may be organized. In many areas the reservations have made arrangements with a local medical examiner or coroner to conduct death investigations when needed.
