ABSTRACT

During a death investigation, one never really knows what might constitute important evidence. It might be something as simple as a loose hair on a piece of clothing or a phone number written on a piece of paper in the decedent’s pocket. When legal proceedings occur, regardless of whether they are criminal or civil trials or proceedings, evidence is used by attorneys to support their side of the case. It is important that medical examiners, coroners, and other death investigators be aware of potentially important evidence and that they know what to do with it when it is encountered.
