ABSTRACT
To initiate the actual production phases (LRIP and FRP), we need to establish production decision criteria. Some examples of the key items to have in place are given here. The production decision will be made when the following requirements have been met:
Hardware Software Reliability Maintainability
n n n n
Built in test (BIT) Low change rate System safety Average unit production cost targets Released documentation with configuration management
Manufacturing Processes: Methods developed, proofed, and in place
Manpower trained and in place Inspection/test procedures ready Process specifications ready and proofed Acceptance test procedures ready
Manufacturing Infrastructure (including facilities/equipment): Production/process equipment in place and verified
Tooling and test equipment in place and verified

The FRP of a product should not be approved until the product’s design has been stabilized, the manufacturing processes have been proved, and the production facilities and equipment are in place or are being put in place.
