ABSTRACT

Simulation is a technique that replicates a real-world situation, usually by means of a simplifi ed model representation, and its dynamic behavior reproduced. Th e model is used to understand cause and eff ect relationships leading to insights as to why certain behaviors occur. From such an analysis various alternative scenarios to improve behavior may be tested. Th e advantage of simulation is that the scenario may be tested at minimum risk to the real-world situation-either due to the fact that the scenario may actually lead to a detriment to performance, or it may be too costly to implement in the real-world without full testing beforehand.
