ABSTRACT

A center of interest in engineering design research consists of attempts to generate general procedural models, as strategic design methodologies. Many models have been published, for example, [19-21,23,24,27,66,109-111,178,315,369,370,452,457, 498,528,548,588-591], produced in many countries, branches of industry, places of work, with different working conditions, ranges and durations of design and research experience, and objectives and assumptions, in various forms and with their own terminological apparatus. Several publications discussed details of the “schools of thought,” for example, [315] and Figure 2.2. Section I.12.3 presents the general model for design engineering of TP(s) and TS(s), based on current knowledge, and integrates many existing models. The information presented in this chapter is mainly situated in and around the “northeast” quadrant of Figures I.4, I.5, and 12.7.
