ABSTRACT
The real number system consists of rational and irrational numbers that can be represented on a straight line called the real number line. Square roots of nonnegative real numbers may be represented on the real number line system, but not the square roots of negative numbers. Despite the fact that no negative number has a square root on the real number line system, it is still possible to develop algebraic expressions that contain such square roots.
