ABSTRACT
The historical aspect of a forensic science, especially one as old as friction ridge identification, has limited value in the day-to-day operations of a forensic identification section. However, having a general knowledge of where the science originated and how it arrived at where it is today can only enhance the overall enlightenment of forensic identification specialists. Having background historical knowledge of a science underscores one’s interest in that science. Also, knowledge of the historical aspect of a science is one area frequently addressed when testifying in court. An expert is expected to be conversant to some degree.
