ABSTRACT
The relevancy and use of poroscopy and edgeoscopy have been addressed in earlier chapters. Both are third level detail that can be used during the identification process to assist with the individualization of friction ridge prints. This chapter may reexamine some of those issues, but the primary objective is to give the reader a historical overview of the background information relating to the development of each of these branches of science. While discussing the historical aspects, the reason for the success or failure of poroscopy and edgeoscopy at their initial time of introduction will become obvious. Having this knowledge will promote an understanding of the relevancy of poroscopy and edgeoscopy and how they correlate with the quantitative-qualitative friction ridge analysis process used today.
