ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we will discuss the last of our introductory issues: the nature of denial of service (DoS) attacks. We will examine surgical attacks and global attacks, the two broad categories of denial of service. Because surgical attacks require explicit access to the resource under attack, we will also explore masquerading, the primary method used by attackers to gain access to target systems.
