ABSTRACT
Photodocumentation is an important aspect of defining a new mouse mutant phenotype and comparing it with similar human diseases. It provides a permanent record of the findings, but more important, it serves as visual support for descriptions in the text. This is particularly important when molecular biologists, usually not fluent in medical terminology, inadequately describe the mutant mice under investigation, making it difficult for subsequent investigators to understand the original observations and interpretations.
