ABSTRACT

More than 70% of projects for average geotechnical consultants are related to building foundations. Their projects range from high-rise buildings to bath houses. In the U.S., most owners will not proceed with construction without a soil test. This is not only for the safety and soundness of the structure but also as a safeguard against future lawsuits. For projects such as subdivision development or industrial parks, the entire area may have to be delineated to comply with the subsoil conditions. For wind resistance structures such as towers and walls, water retaining structures such as ponds and reservoirs, the use of different approaches and various report requirements may be needed.
