Nambu-Goldstone boson A massless boson that arises in theories where a global symmetry is broken. If a theory initially possesses some global symmetry group, G, which has N generators, and if this original symmetry is broken down to a global symmetry subgroup, H , which has M generators, then the final theory will contain N-M massless bosons which are called Nambu-Goldstone bosons.
