There.are.some.specific.things.you.can.do.to.prepare.yourself.for.cross-examination.. Most.obvious.are.those.that.have.been.previously.discussed.in.this.text..All.those. devices.and.ideas.serve.to.enhance.your.credibility.as.an.expert.witness..As.your. credibility.is.enhanced,.cross-examination.threats.are.diminished..Even.at.the.highest.levels.of.expertise,.however,.successfully.navigating.a.cross-examination.is.bittersweet..As.the.noted.forensic.scientist.John.Thornton.has.said,.“Surviving.a.cogent. and.forceful.cross-examination.is.much.like.licking.honey.from.a.razor.blade.”1
