ABSTRACT
The consequence of feeding increasing numbers of people and encouraging population growth is a per capita decline in cropland, irrigation, and fertilizer resources. According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, per capita grain production worldwide has been declining continuously for more than 20 years, despite biotechnology; these grains provide more than 80 percent of the world’s food.
