ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will examine both wired and wireless communications that are primarily used to support intra-vehicle communications. Beginning with a focus on wired technology, we will review the key characteristics of the Local Interconnect Network (LIN) and the Controller Area Network (CAN), with specific focus on the range of vehicle applications they can support. In the second portion of this chapter we will turn our attention to wireless technology, describing and discussing the use of Bluetooth and other wireless technology-based systems that function as delivery mechanisms for information provided by cell phones and satellite transponders.
