ABSTRACT

The elementary concepts and principles applying to simple molecules and studied in junior chemistry courses also apply to complex biochemical molecules and reactions.

1. Percentage composition is the percent by weight of each type of atom in the compound. For example, from the formula H2O, the percentages by weight of H and O can be calculated as 11% and 89%, respectively. Conversely, if the percentages by weight are known, the formula can be worked out.
