ABSTRACT
The individual point and moving range control chart allows data collected by serial sampling to be plotted individually, as is normally the case for serial sampling. With the exception of the methodology for calculating ranges, its construction is very similar to average and range control charts. Figure 15.1 shows 56 modified data from the Red Beads Experiment. A reduction in variation was simulated by halving the variation around the center line from the 25th point onward. At point 40, the process average was shifted down by 3

. Special causes of similar magnitude were applied at points 12 and 34. Red beads data are used here because they are known to be stable, and they illustrate how the chart demonstrates changes.
