ABSTRACT
Companies face increasing public expectations to ensure the adequacy of the health and safety of their employees. The effectiveness of these arrangements is an important contributor to the overall safety performance of the company, and is also increasingly seen as an indicator of potential community impacts. These efforts have become more formalized and structured through the introduction of legislation, the application of risk assessment and audit procedures to assess a widening range of hazards, and the concomitant development of standards and guidance.
