ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3 we looked at different types of data and the reasons we collect data. In this chapter we consider how to gather data. Most organisations collect a variety of data relevant to their operations. Companies are likely to collect sales data, customer data, and data about their employees. Universities collect data about students and their performance. National governments collect data about a vast array of things, such as age distribution, the country’s trading and business activity, and its economic performance. We begin by considering four examples of data collection.
