ABSTRACT

If the investigative interviewer intends to make some form of assessment regarding the credibility of a person’s statements or remarks, there needs to be a method by which he obtains the most complete and least contaminated information possible. The optimum is for the interviewer to conduct the interview and make an assessment regarding the credibility of the statement at the same time. However, there are times when the investigator is forced to rely on the initial interviewing efforts of other investigators, counselors, victim advocates, and so forth. In such cases, a full analysis of these statements may not be possible, although all is not lost. A dedicated investigator realizes that no interview is ever wasted, because if he works at it and diligently reviews a statement, there is always information that has some value to the investigation.
