ABSTRACT

From smiles to frowns, crying to anger, crossed arms to open palms, the gestures of the human animal have been a constant source of fascination to scientists and the observers of human behavior for centuries. These same groups have argued among themselves as to which behaviors are imprinted, or learned during childhood as part of the socialization process, or are a part of the genetic code handed down from one generation to the next. All do agree, however, that the gestures as well as words speak volumes about our emotions, stresses, and innermost thoughts.
