ABSTRACT
In any human encounter, the truth is an elusive companion. Even when the situation is most favorable, the interviewer has to contend with differences in perceptions, personal needs, and biases. Witnesses have grudges, faulty memories, and preconceptions, all of which alter their perception of the facts.
