ABSTRACT

The absolute volume method detailed in ACI 211 (American Concrete Institute, ACI Committee 211, 1991) is commonly used to proportion the local concrete materials to achieve the desired fresh and ultimate hardened concrete properties. This includes selecting the water-cement ratio, coarse and fine aggregate, cement and pozzolans, water, and admixture requirements. The effects of all of these volumetric properties are interrelated. Their selection depends on many factors, including the compressive strength, which is the simplest and easiest to measure.
