ABSTRACT

The world is ever changing, and a comprehensive understanding of the world

will not be achieved without theoretical and methodological advances to

decode complex dynamics in human and environmental systems. Dynamics

refers to happenings in the world that involve change or movement. Oil

spills, tornadoes, and protest marches are all examples of geographic

dynamics. In addition to scientific inquiries, understanding these dynamics is

essential across all levels of human and environmental dimensions-from

individual daily activities to world peacekeeping operations, from local land

use decisions to global climate change.
