ABSTRACT
Similar to other books written by this author, the purpose of an introductory chapter is to provide readers with general information about the topic of the book. This chapter is no exception as we will commence our familiarity of Carrier Ethernet with a definition. Once this is accomplished we will discuss the rationale for this relatively new technology, briefly tour several key aspects of the technology, and then discuss some of the applications that can benefit from the use of Carrier Ethernet.
