ABSTRACT

World leaders and government officials from the United States believe in having an overall effective plan in order for the continuation of national and governmental functions and activities to survive after any sort of catastrophic event. Naturally, the same holds true for the private sector. Businesses concerned about continuity planning for a pandemic can refer to Federal Preparedness Circular 65, Federal Executive Branch Continuity of Operations (FPC-65) and Interim Guidance on Continuity of Operations Planning for State and Local Governments. These guidelines will assist businesses in maintaining and recuperating in the event of a flu pandemic. Businesses should understand that although a flu pandemic could be tragic, there will be no direct physical affect to the infrastructure. There will be an impact on human capital, possibly removing personnel from the workplace for days, weeks, or even months (HSC [Homeland Security Council], 2005).
