ABSTRACT
IP is the prevalent standard for communications on the Internet. An Internet address is used to route a packet from a source to a destination, possibly via intermediate routers. IP was designed at a time when computers remained at a fixed location. An Internet address implicitly specifies a computer’s physical location. When delivering a packet to a particular destination, the same route is usually used unless an intermediate router falls out of favor due to congestion or other failures occur.
